Gilmour hangs 'em up

Earlier this week in Toronto, Doug Gilmour announced his retirement. He ended his prolific 14 year NHL career in the city he loved, Toronto (he played one shift for the Leafs after the trade deadline last year, before hurting his knee). His stats are hall of fame material; 1474 games, 450 goals, 964 assists for 1414 points.

It was a little wierd that no one from the Toronto Maple Leafs seemed to be present and that the press conference wasn't at the Air Canada Center. It could be because the Leafs managed to snub one of their most popular players by not even offering him any consideration to make their roster this season.

In a very classy ceremony held last night at the Air Canada Center, the Toronto Maple Leafs honoured Doug Gilmour. Hopefully his number will be retired soon.
