Hockey pool draft

My keeper league draft is this evening and I am just not prepared. We are in year 8 of the 10 year league and the salary caps will absolutely kill me this year. The likes of Joe Thornton, Olli Jokinen, Dany Heatley, Alex Tanguay and Daniel Sedin are now in the 5% of the salary scale and so I am going to have to dig out a lot of deals. As of right now, almost all 10 of my picks have to be very close to the minimum salary level for me to be able to make it under the cap.

I usually bought a hockey pool magazine to check out which players had moved where, who was expected to play on which lines, the rookie crop and to get some rough scoring forecasts. This year, I didn't even bother buying a magazine and am going to see how well I can do using just the Internet and my "hockey instincts". I am hoping that my fantasy football results so far this year are not an indication of how things my go in this hockey pool.

This draft was probably one of the toughest I have been part of. Strapped for cash, my first 5 picks were at the minimum salary. Of the 10 starters I selected, 8 were at the lowest possible salary level. My only two indulgences were Cory Perry and Brian Campbell. The rest of my team was taken from the (very small) bargain pile - Hudler, Stafford, Brewer, Rachunek, (Marcel) Hossa, etc are not the type of players I'd usually draft even in deep pools.
